Early Childhood

Although most children benefit from waiting until at least age five for fine motor skills to develop, lessons can begin as early as three for the musically gifted. Over the years, I have tailored my own pre-reading approach that incorporates the best from several different early childhood methods. Each child develops strong fundamental musical skills at an appropriate pace for their age, while gaining a love and appreciation for music making that can last a lifetime.

Twice Exceptional (2E) Students

New York City is the neurodiversity capital of the United States.  We have a preponderance of diagnosed and undiagnosed cases of ADHD, autism, and other neurodivergent archetypes.  Twice Exceptional (2E) individuals are those who struggle with one or more disability while simultaneously excelling in other areas.  These students may have tremendous potential, but chafe in a traditional learning environment.  They require a specialized approach that accommodates their unique learning needs, builds confidence in their abilities, and provides emotional support while allowing them to reach their full potential.  As the father of two 2E children, I have extensively studied the best ways to support these individuals with their unique challenges.  If you believe your child has exceptional musical gifts but is struggling with finding the right teacher, I may be able to help.

Adults

Adult students are frequently some of my favorite students to teach.  They come to me with a wide range of interests and goals, which means I have to devise individualized curricula to meet their needs.  These range from overhauling an incomplete or improperly taught basic technique, to teaching piano arrangement and playing by ear, to music theory analysis and ear training, to interpreting advanced classical repertoire.  I often draw on my experiences not only as a concert pianist, but as a composer, arranger, and music producer, to impart as much relevant information in the most precise way possible.

Note: At the moment I am unfortunately unable to take adult beginners with no prior experience.
